As a member of the Coalition, we wrote and published “Decolonized Worldmaking: Campus Encampments for Civic Engagement” in a recent issue of the Radical Teacher: A Socialist, Feminist, and Anti-Racist Journal Dedicated to the Theory and Practice of Teaching (2024).

As Branding and Media Consultant, Casey is leading development of marketing materials, social media, and communications strategy.

I edited and proof-read the UN Angola Country Results Report 2023, which required a detailed edit of the document to ensure grammatical correctness, reducing jargon, ensuring correct spelling, and consistent use of style and format throughout.

Communication outputs include Myth Buster factsheets; advocacy series on Islamophobia, Native America, and Black History Month; public statements and speeches, several advocacy campaigns, and two Op-Eds.

Casey undertook a thorough desk review and wrote an 85-page Common Country Analysis (CCA) in 2021 for the UN County Team in Yemen. The CCA is an independent, impartial, and collective assessment and analysis of the situation in the country for internal use in developing the UNSDCF (Cooperation Framework). The CCA examined the progress, gaps, opportunities and bottlenecks to achieving the 2030 Agenda, UN norms and standards, as well as an analysis and identification of marginalised groups.

Casey led media outreach, provided strategic communication and fundraising support, helped guide strategic partnerships and donor relations, and contributed to project development. Examples of work include press releases and Op-Eds as well as a communications strategy.

Casey developed and implemented the UN Communications and Advocacy Strategy and annual work plan in consultation with the UN Country Team; coordinated and led the UN Communications Group; manage community and media outreach activities; strategic internal and external communication and advocacy (including delivery of advocacy skills training for UN staff); media response and risk management; emergency communication (coordination of UN positioning and writing Situation Reports); and promotion and positioning of the UN in Cambodia in support of an advancing UN Reform agenda and increased UN cohesion.

One key achievement included production of a promotional video for UN Day, highlighting the comparative advantages of the UN family in Cambodia. 

During this 12-month contract, Casey wrote and edited media releases, speeches, stories, fact sheets and publications; assisted to prepare Situational Reports on the status of emergency situations (Cyclone Aila); maintained the website; coordinated events and donor visits; provided strategic communication and media advice; managed consultants; provided communication training; and managed the production of the bimonthly magazine (including restructure, redesign and increased distribution).

During her years with the Queensland Government, Casey wrote press releases, produced communication materials and managed events. Casey was heavily involved with the roll out of a multimedia (print, TV, radio and online) state-wide Foster and Kinship Carer Recruitment Campaign for the Department of Child Safety in 2008. Casey wrote the scripts, managed photography, filming and production, media buy and overall roll out of the campaign. The department surpassed the goal of 500 new carers and the campaign was replicated in another Australian state.

As Media Consultant, Casey led all media relations for the organisation, from media engagement and strategic media outreach efforts, to extending the reach of fundraising campaigns and supporting political advocacy efforts.
